Moisture content in floorboards

Hello,
I've recently moved in to a property which had carpet already laid. We've got a new one coming and had a look at the boards underneath before the new carpet comes in a few weeks. The boards look fine to the eye and don't feel damp but were softer than I imagined hey should be. They've since been tested with a moisture meter and they read between 14 and 18%. I know that ideally they should be less than 12% so my question is whether the readings are a huge cause for concern or not?? Any advice would be very greatly appreciated

I would say increase the drying time by using dehumidifier to bring the moisture reading down
