Kitchen Fitting

Gas or electric hob position

Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.44 PM

Can a hob (I can fit gas or electric) be fitted over an end unit that is next to a doorway. The unit ends right on the line of the doorway. Is there a minimum distance that the hob can be fitted?

Hi. I have been design and installing Kitchens for about 20 years now. My first thought would be "is this the only position it could go?" I would take into account the risk of people going through the door and hitting pans etc. Legally they is an issue with the position of Gas or electrical equipment with regard to external influences. Gas hobs shouldn't be in a position to be affected by drafts. In short I work look at a different design, or if it is the only place to go, a panel above worktop height to stop drafts and accidents.

I agree with the above response, there is no way I would put my name to this installation, besides the serious accidents that WILL occur, I would have the design altered. The appliance manufacturer's installation instructions give clear guidance, taking into account safety. Be warned!
