Are trickle vents needed

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.19 PM

So we need to change our single glazing to double. This is to meet building control regs. We don't have air vents in the walls. We have them only at the bottom part of our house outside. Do we really need the ugly trickle vents? We've been told we'll have a problem with condensation if we don't put them. Our windows ate Victorian and the vents will look odd. Thanks Tia

In short yes it will help prevent a build up of condensation. The problem today is everybody wants a sealed draft free house ,this means no natural air flow you need air flow in your house to allow moisture to escape. The main reason you don't have air bricks in your outer walls is it is a solid brick built house with no cavity to vent, the vents at ground level would be for a suspended wooden floor to vent the timbers supporting the floor to prevent rot. You can by all means refuse to have them that is your choice but condensation continually dripping into floorboards and walls can cause thousand of pounds of damage. Good luck Alex
