Help with concrete flooring

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 2.59 PM

My daughter is in a very old property, and has recently found the downstairs floors are concrete. Should she have them boarded before laying new carpets.? I had an extension some years ago and the builder did this to my concrete floor Many thanks

Hi, usually with a concrete floor, its level enough to carpet over, I'd always suggest getting the best underlay you can afford. it makes all the difference. It can make an average carpet feel luxurious, and help keep the warmth in. Boarding is usually used on rough floors, i guess some people may think it creates a barrier. but breathing is important. speak to your carpet fitter, he see the floor and advise.. good luck Jon

No need to board it for carpet, if you want to add a bit of insulation to your concrete floor, get yourself some damp proof barrier and good quality underlay with insulation foil underside before laying carpet down.
