Is it possible to fit a splitter on a rainwater downpipe?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.41 PM

Hello Thanks for taking the time to read this. We have an old house and have an issue with one of the downpipes which takes the bulk of the water from ours and the neighbours roof. Somewhere along the line I think this has been moved as it now drains into a soakaway rather than the gully. The pipe runs straight down and then bends 135° around the back door before going down again to the ground. The other side of the door there are two gullys/drains one which takes tap water from the bathroom and washing machine and the other from a much smaller gutter. When the rain is particularly heavy the soakaway can't cope and the cement floor outside the back door floods. It is down some steps so it's not possible to fit a spreader onto the garden. What I'm wondering is whether I could a) split the pipe and divert some rainwater into the hopper on the other side of the door or b) if I should just start again and bend the pipe the other way so it leads to the gully... Any advice/thoughts welcome.( I appreciate it's hard to envisage so I hope this makes sense!) Thanks

It would be best to re direct the pipe to the drain rather than the soak away if possible as for the ( splitter ) they are called Y branch and are available in all upvc suppliers and in diy stores such as b&q Screwfix wickes etc

Yes its difficult to picture but it sounds like you need a branch in the pipe (like a y junction) or look to save the water with a water but they come with fitting instructions.
