Sinking block pavers

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

Hi, Posting on behalf of my neighbour. He is experiencing 'sinking' in his block paver driveway. Interestingly, in the vicinity of two manhole covers. He had the area surveyed with cameras in the pipe runs and remedial works done about two years ago but found nothing. My thoughts would be cracks in the drains and sediment running into them and away. Any other thoughts or options? We live on a clay substrate which does cause heaving and sinkage depending upon prolonged drought or rain. Also, we are near a railway and can feel the vibrations in the house. I have photos but I don't think I'm able to post them here. TIA

If you have examined all the obvious the only thing left is substandard workmanship , Never compact the ground never dug the death required , never backed the sides up with concrete causing spreading. or your parking heavier than designed vehicles on. pick from above.

This is most likely due to being insufficiently based and not compacted properly. Also there could be cracks in drain allowing water to seep through this will cause boggy ground the reason for sinking. The only way to fix would be lift affected area rebase and check for default in drain wall.

Hi, this sounds like the sub bast type 1 stone hasn’t been compacted at all near the man holes, especially if everywhere else is ok and the interior of man hole walls haven’t given way. It’s probably quite an easy fix and I estimate two guys for one day.
