Banging pipes when washing machine fills

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.41 PM

When the washing machine draws in water then shuts off there is a banging pipe? somewhere in the system. What can be the cause? How can it be fixed?

I have come accross this where customers have a high water pressure. Banging happens when the water meets resistance when it hits the fast closing fill valve in the machine. Try slightly closing the valve on the inlet cold water valve to your machine.

Agree with previous comment. the pipes build and release pressure when turned on and off. when the water is on the pressure is released and then when off the flow is suddenly stopped causing the pipe to shudder slightly. if you can identify where the noise is you can purchase a pipe clip should be 15mm from any plumbers merchants or B&Q store.

This could possibly be an easy fix without looking at the job I would probably say this is to do with the pipework not being clipped properly which is causing movement when there is water passing through the pipework. You could just need some pipe clips installed.

clip all mains pipes where you can, if it still persists fit a water hammer arrestor.
