Loft hatch help!

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.18 PM

Our loft hatch had a door that pulled down but the clasp wasn’t strong enough and it kept falling down. We have now changed it so that the door to the loft is one that you push up inside the loft. Problem is that we are left with 2 rectangle holes where the hinges were on the wood- any ideas how I can fix this as it looks pretty rubbish!

Hi, Get your self a two part wood filler and you can mix them together and fill up the holes, give it few hours so you can sand it down and paint. This filler comes in natural and white, so whatever suits your needs. You can find this on Amazon or any local builders yard. Hope this helps.

Depending on the size and depth of the rectangles you can opt for using a 2 part wood filler, for a rectangle the approx size and depth of a 3 inch butt hinge. mix approx a cherry tomato sized amount of filler with around a pea size amount of hardener. If the rectangle or hole is much deeper than a 3 inch butt hinge you may have to build it up in a couple of layers. you can use a tad more hardener to speed up the time it takes to cure between layers. i have posted a link for a 2 part filler that would be suitable https://www.screwfix.com/p/ronseal-high-performance-wood-filler-white-550g/45077?tc=WA1&ds_kid=92700023138985029&ds_rl=1249416&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1249481&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=CjwKCAiA0O7fBRASEiwAYI9QAkxQMUjXLm6iO-Bbbm-5PWLjCeEwGS3bkxuoYSS2par4tTh4O0wUBRoCJGwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
