Advice on current roof and insulation

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.40 PM

Hi there We have a large flat roof extension on our bungalow. The room is used as a bedroom. There are no leaks and it looks in ok condition (we have only lived here for 1year) Is there anything we can do to stop the loss of heat from the room? An insulating layer possibly? Or would we have to have it pitched to gain that sort of insulation. Thanks for your time taken to read this. Laura

you can install insulation between the roof joists and an extra layer underneath the joists to stop any cold bridging. The amount of insulation depends on the depth of roof joists as a 50mm gap if required to allow roof ventilation. This work will require the plasterboard ceiling to be removed before insulating and then reboarding and plastering. I’d be happy to view the job and offer more specific advice and give an estimate for the work. Hope this helps Ande,

Hi you can add a 120 mm insulation board on top of existing felt if in good condition if not remove all felt then a new felt or single ply membrane to weather it this system creates a warm flat roof

I total agree with the last post. If you put insulation on top of your exsisting roof it will become a warm roof .Only down side you have to refelt the roof .
