Gas Works

Side or manual control on gas heaters

Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.42 PM

Hello i will be buying 2 gas heaters fairly soon for my new home. I have shortlisted the gas fires and both come with the option of a side slide control. Even though they are an extra £100 or so (which I'm reluctantly prepared to pay for convenience). Is it wise to go for a side option in the long run? I'm worried the mechanism might be a bit flimsy and that my young children might yank on it too hard and break it. Even if we put cost to one side is it a reliable option to go for. Do they damage easily and are they easy to repair? Is it a common fault? And why are they a £100 more expensive anyway? Thanks in advance.

In my experience side slide are fine as long as the appliance is serviced regularly. I have only had a case of one sticking due to a bent control rod.
