Chimney & Fireplace

Chimney ventilation help

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.18 PM

We have had problems with our chimney and in the last 11 months had a new fire, box and liner installed. The chimney recently failed a smoke test so we are reverting to an electric fire as we think we will keep having problems. The chimney as it stands has a gc1 on top. When the electric fire is installed can we cap it off so we don't lose any heat and don't occasionally hear what we believe is rain coming down and hitting the steel box? If we cannot cap it off what's the best way forward? Thanks

if the liner and box are fitted correctly and sealed properly your chimney should not of failed a smoke test. was it sealed with fire cement do you know. the liner should be sealed at the back of the fire box and underneath the cowl at the top of the chimney that way no smoke should escape. hope it helps.
