Plastering & Rendering

Mortar or internal render

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.40 PM

Hello we have taken the skim layer of plaster off our walls and found a coat of either mortar or an internal render. The house is an 1830s terrace so it may have been done to even out wonky walls but we're not sure if we can remove it or if we are best to leave it? We were taking the plaster off so that we could have a dpc injected and possibly use a tanking slurry to cure the damp. Is there any chance it could contain asbestos? Thank you

its most likely been done as part of an injected damp proof course to solve dampness which seldom works in this type of property.

Hi,have never heard of render containing asbestos.would not see any benefit.more than likely sand and cement plus waterproofed applied in two or three coats.if sound would leave on . Anthony
