Tiling

Under floor water heating on Combi Boiler

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

Hi Tiling / Heating Pros, Could you please let me know if it is ok to use Combi boiler for underfloor water heating before laying the tiles? I am planning to do rear extension. And with the same project I want to do tiling in my existing kitchen, living room and new extension. And I have got Valliant EcoTech Executive 838 Combi boiler (which comes with in-build 15 hot water storage tank). So is it possible to do underfloor water heating using the same boiler for approx 55sqm area? Or do I need different type of boiler? Please note that same boiler will be used for hot water in bathroom and thee radiators upstairs. Also I have got water softener fitted. Not sure if it will affect in anyway? (good or bad in terms of flow of water) Any help appreciated. Many Thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Kash, Combi boilers can be used for underfloor heating but your existing heating system and your new requirements will need to be analysed before a decision on the correct design for your heating and hot water system can be made. Information to be included in the calculations would be; The current pressure, flow rates and capacity of your incoming water supply. The total BTUs required to heat your property after doing a heat loss calculation. compatibility of the components required for an efficient system. Please bear in mind that these calculations can sometimes mean that the whole system may need to be redesigned with larger pipe sizes and a separate heating loop to serve the manifold for the under floor heating. I hope this helps. Speak soon Chris

Hello kash It is possible to use a combi boiler for underfloor heating. The manifold for the underfloor heating has a separate zone valve and controls to radiators. In effect the system is altered and new controls wired in so existing combi becomes a system boiler on heating side. Hope this is helpful. Thanks Jon
