Problem removing beading from skirting.

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.18 PM

I'm currently having problems trying to remove the beading off of my skirting. Previous people have used some sort of adhesive which I'm using a Stanley knife to try and scalp through but I'm seem to be getting no where and when I do try and pull away the beading it is just coming away in small pieces and leaving most of it still attached to the skirting any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Martin, I would recommend using a heat-gun (which is used for paint stripping) on a low setting. Slowly warm the area to loosen the grip of the adhesive, then apply firm pressure with a scraper or wide wood chisel. The heat gun will help to remove the old adhesive left attached too.

Hi. Heat gun is a good idea. If this is a wooden beading (quadrant?) Ive had this problem to solve myself. My solution was a sharp wood chisel and hammer. Once the beading was removed (bulk) it was then a case of shaving down what remained so that nothing was proud. Its likely some area of the skirting will suffer some damage from this, so i filled over the areas with two-pack woodfiller then sanded flat with a palm sander. Primed u/coated and when finished looked great
