Damp Proofing

Damp in garage?

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.18 PM

We have a garage that is showing signs of damp. Builders have said this is because the neighbours drive is slightly higher. Builders have suggested to to put tanking slurry across the wall where there is damp. Another builder came today and said that the paint is rubbish and will not work. What is best advised and is the slurry paint sufficient? Many thanks

The best answer is to prevent the problem in the first place by asking your neighbour to lower the ground level at their side of the wall to below your damp proof course. This should be a minimum of 6" below the visible dpc.

Ideally neighbour should lower his ground levels but this isn't an ideal world and its doubtful they would do that. ( if they have a drive or patio laid for instance) A tanking (waterproofing) slurry is the best way forward to waterproof the internal wall of the garage.
