Damp Proofing Question

Help for porous sandstone

Hi, we have a sandstone wall in our renovated crofthouse which has always leaked a little, it was silicone treated 6 years ago; after this wet winter the water is now dripping down inside wall. We assume that a water proof render would be best solution but realise it should be breathable. What do you advise?

Its a shame to have to render over a stone wall, is it just one particular area thats leaking, is all the pointing in sound condition.
You really need a stone mason to check it for you, if you decide to render the wall it will probably need to be a lime based render.
