Light switch tripping board

Anonymous user 6 May 2018 - 11.41 PM

Just had my house rewired and all is well, I have bought a ceiling fan/light and fitted it today. So done the job the light only had live neutral and earth connecting block. So I installed all the relevant wires into the relevant block put the board back on the light was on even though the switch was switched off, I then used the switch and it tripped the board. After resetting the board I used the remote For the light and fan both turn on and off fine with the remote. It’s only tripping the board when I use the actual light switch. I noticed the sparky had put a brown sleeve over a blue wire I had a look at it and it seemed like he had damaged the wire so I assumed he put the sleeve on to protect it. There is three wires in the lighting circuit and I put all the wires in the correct connecting block, or so I thought I did. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The brown sleeving is to signify it’s a live cable it’s the switchwire from the switch. Please get someone in to rectify this who actually knows what they are doing.

Hello The brown sleeve is informative. This conductor is live, not neutral. I recommend to employ an electrician to check the polarity. You are putting Yourself at risk of electric shock.

Turn off all the power... Put all the blues together except for the one with brown sleeving, put all the browns together and put all the green and yellows together. Connect the blue from the fitting to the blues, the brown from the fitting to the blue with brown sleeving and the green and yellow from the fitting to the green and yellows. Please be careful and if you’re not sure on anything, put the job on here for someone to come and take a look.
