render and wall cladding and dpc

i understand you cant bridge the dpc but i keep seeing rendered houses then the lower 1-2 foot under the render there is wall cladding fitted like a slate stone effect was just just wondering how this is done as i cant find any info on the net other than people saying cant bridge dpc thanks in advance

jim, it is true, bridging the dpc is not recommended but with the correct water proof adhesive or cement based water proof renders it is possible. ED CHAPMAN
