Electrical
Home insurance, socket & switch change

So me and my partner have lived in a new build for just over a year. We recently purchased chrome plug sockets and light switches. I switched the mains off and mirrored the wiring previously in whitest adding earthing to to face plates. We haven’t had a problem however we have been told that this can make our insurance void? Is that the case? If so could an electrician check the circuit or would they have to check each socket and switch? Any feedback would be appreciated.

No this will not void your insurance. Replacing sockets is not a 'notifiable' job in electrical terms and is a perfectly reasonable task for a home owner to undertake. Problems can arise if you leave loose connections or screw down onto insulation, especially in ring circuits. You can always hire a sparky to check the circuit affected. It doesn't take long to do this but be prepared to pay for any reasonable rework required.

All metal sockets and lights must be earthed ether with its circuit protective conductor or a flying lead . this is an easy test to confirm continuity and if not earthed will be an easy fix to do so.
