Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.37 PM

Let me share my situation. I originally planned for fixing the boiler but British Gas breakdown cover engineer is coming next Friday. So I tried to have electric shower and installed by myself this afternoon. It looks pretty much perfect. But I'm not 100% sure for the electric part. I have made 7m power cable connection. I have done plugged into the room mains with RCD adapter. Please could I have expert concern. It will be used only for one week but need safety.

Rather you than me to use it! If you wanted it done for safety ( even as a temporary measure) you should have had it done by a professional. What sort of kw rating is this shower?

Installation of shower is up to PART P full scope and can be performed by Skilled and Registered electrician. Your project should be inspected and tested to confirm safety.

Hi. Not an 'expert' opinion here. Just a concerned swift reply. Get an electrician in

Hi, the fact that you are asking this question should tell you you need a qualified electrician. The cable size depends on the load and should be wired directly back to the consumer unit on its own MCB with RCD protection. you should have local isolation, ie 45-amp pull switch or double pole isolator. the cable will be minimum 6.0 mm but may need 10.0 mm, another reason for a professional is that this is a specialist location. Either way any new circuit should be instrument testing and RCD trip times should also be checked. you might save money doing it your self but you can not be sure its safe.
