Do I need to make a ring circuit?
Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.37 PM
Installing power to an outdoor shed as follows. Power to shed/consumer unit, consumer unit to Plug sockets and lighting/light switch. Do I need to return the cable from the last socket/switch back to the consumer box or is this all part of the cable? Do the live and neutral create the circuit or do I have to take them both from the last socket back to the consumer box to create the circuit?
Many Thanks

There is no need to install a ring circuit in your shed providing that the cables are protected by a correctly rated MCB. You will require a MCB rated at 20 amps if you are using 2.5mm cable for the sockets. An MCB of 6 amps with 1.0mm or 1.5mm cable for your lights.
One cable goes from your house consumer unit to the new consumer unit in your shed. All the shed circuits will connect to the shed consumer unit. The shed circuits do not return to the house.
