Wardrobe interior materials

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.15 PM

Can someone advise me on the most common materials used to build and design a wardrobe interior? What kind of timber is commonly used? MDF, MFC etc. The common thickness. The opening span of the wardrobe is approx. 2705mm. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

The most common material used is 18mm MFC (melamine faced chipboard), this is the industry standard for carcass and shelves, depending on the construction method the backs tend to be 8mm MFC but this varies. You can of course use MDF (medium density fibreboard) but then you will need to paint it and also edge band it to get a decent finish. It sounds to me as if this is a DIY project (?), the problem you have there is that the full range of materials in MFC is not easily available to the public. The DIY sheds will have some stock but only in a very limited range of sizes and finishes, however if you are only fitting out an existing space this might solve your problem. Post again if you would like further advice. Kind regards. Spacecraft Designs

There are no real standard options, to be honest. Different companies offer different options. It really does depend on the final finish you are looking for?! There are pros and cons to both MDF or MFC. I personally opt for moisture-resistant MDF which both machines and paints better than the cheaper MDF options. This works perfectly for those that are opting for a professional spray painted finish. In terms of carcass construction 18mm for the main structure and 6mm back boards are more than sufficient.
