Rusted Hinges Window Seized.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

Hi I have PVC double glazing and for some reason over the winter the hinges seem to have rusted. Some windows I can actually open but unable to push down the little thin metal thing on the hinge to open the window fully(sorry not sure what the removal term for this mental thingy is) on some of the windows I can not even get them to open it almost like they have rusted shut. Is there anyway of changing the hinges if I can not get the window open in the first place.any advice would be great.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You can buy replacement scissor hinges for PVC double glazed windows. The windows can be top hung side hung or fire escape type of hinges and come in various lengths and stack height. I suggest you contact a window specialist to come along and look at the hinges if you want to replace them, cheaper hinges may rust , may I suggest wd40 be sprayed on them to try and free up where they are sticking and gently ease them backwards and forwards till they free up.
