Wet socket has tripped

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.34 PM

A plasterer working in an upstairs bedroom has spilt water in a socket. He's taken the socket off the wall to dry it out. 3 hours later the socket looks dry but the fuse box is still tripping and therefore power to all upstairs sockets is lost. How long should it be left before trying the fuse box again? Does an electrician need to look at this?

The socket outlet will need to be in a clean and dry state, in order to operate correctly. If the outlets have been unscrewed, the circuit in question should be isolated at the fuse box. This will maintain safety. 24 hours should be sufficient for the plaster to dry. If the RCD continues to trip, further investigation may be required.
