Buying a house that needs some work

We're considering buying a house that doesn't have double glazed windows. Also the kitchen is small so we were thinking about knocking down a wall to incorporate dinning room into the kitchen space. Before we make an offer, we'd like to get an idea of costs. Would tradesmen spare time to come with us to the property to give us a quote (as opposed to typing here how many windows etc)? Or should I try to find someone via word of mouth?
