Splitface quartz mosaics on a plasterboard wall ?

Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.36 PM

Hi, We ordered Splitface quartz mosaic tiles and we would like to put them on a decorative wall ( with fireplace and TV on it), but our concern is that these quartz tiles are too heavy for a plasterboard wall. 1square meter of the tiles weights approximately 30kg. Please, share your professional oppinion - should we use these tiles and is it safe? Should we use these products as a solution? http://www.builderdepot.co.uk/6mm-x-800mm-x-1200mm-hardie-backer-250-board.html http://www.builderdepot.co.uk/speed-pro-265-2438mm-x-685mm-x-26g-expanded-metal-lath-galvanised-eml.html Can you recommend which adhesive should we use? Thank you.

Plaster board will hold 32kg per square metre and even more if mechanically fixed. So providing your boards are fixed correctly you are absolutely fine and I hope this help in your decision

As long as you use suitable adhesive, the tiles will be fine, as although the are heavy, the amount of contact to the board would spread the wieght, just make sure you have the adhesive spread not to thick and there is maximum contact between tile and wall
