Floater valve vibration

In the water tank in the loft, the floater valve (and plastic ball on the end) vibrate as the water level reaches the right level, why does the floater vibrate? Its really noisy. I've been told that the washer is worn or broken and that the floater needs replacing? Please can you advise?

A new float valve can be obtained and replaced cheaply and easily. So id recommend that.
