Bricklaying & Repointing

Brickwork overhangs at DPC level

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 2.54 PM

Hi. I'm planning to buy this house but the surveyor pointed out that there has been structural movement and this has caused the brickwork on the side to overhang the dpc by what look like about 10mm. The RICS building surveyor and valuer from the bank are happy with this but can this be remedied ?

Was your survey a full structural one or just the basic,if the foundations have stayed in place and the house above the DPC has shifted then you could end up with a full take down and rebuild of the wall, which is not cheap.A structural engineer is the best bet if in doubt. Good luck.

Hi rickadoo Yes this problem can be rectified. As long as a surveyor said the footings don’t need underpinning then we would pick up the brickwork above with supports , take out the brickwork which has moved and rebuild back to the correct position.
