Hole in ceiling - how to fix it?

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.13 PM

When boarding an attic, I have accidentally slipped on one of the supporting beams and my leg has fallen down through the the ceiling on the lower floor. I ended up with a lot of mess, broken ceiling and a hole, approx size of 35x50cm. It's a new built house with the 16mm plasterboard attached to the supporting beams. There are also few cracks on the ceiling nearby the hole and part of the ceiling is bended to the inside. Can someone please advise how to fix it? I know I need to cut part of the board, but do I have to replace entire board or just the piece that is broken? Thanks in advance...

Cut out the total damaged area, then using roofing batten from below, cut the length required plus 150mm...slide batten up on to top of board, so that 75mm approx is on top of the board each end so that the batten is totally visible near the edge of the hole...now screw through each end with a couple of plasterboard screws...do the same the other side of the hole, now when you look up you will see your hole and a batten each side, now screw new piece of board to battens...scrim tape all joins and then skim to a feather edge finish all round...allow to dry, lightly sand where feathered ...ready for decoration....

you can also cut out hole bigger till you get to the original ceiling joists square it up then cut board to size and screw back to joists/ scrim edges/pva edges then apply plaster
