Conservatories

New foundations or extend existing ones?

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 2.52 PM

We are replacing our old Lean to glass conservatory/greenhouse with a larger PVC one. When it comes to the foundations will we have to rip out all existing foundations from the old conservatory to place new down as one solid slab. Or can we simply extend the existing foundations by digging out the clay soil surrounding the existing foundation and filling in with concrete?

You could join the foundation s with rebar but would be better to rip out and replace it all and building regs will be required

Always best to dig up and replace with new, after all that way you know it's right and will not fall down. Conservatories are normally exempt from building regulations when: They are built at ground level and are less than 30 square metres in floor area. The conservatory is separated from the house by external quality walls, doors or windows. There should be an independent heating system with separate temperature and on/off controls. Glazing and any fixed electrical installations comply with the applicable building regulations requirements.
