Correct Wiring in a flat

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.16 PM

Hi, Kitchen wiring: Hoping to do the first fix to save on cost and there is a few pointers I need i want to run the cable for a cooker hood into a flat renovation so this is a complete rewrite. the kitchen lighting will be on its own fuse so can I take a supply of the light to the cooker hood or does that need or better to be on a separate fuse. Also wish to hard wire a heat head does this have to be on its own fuse. Ring Mains: I understand on a ring main that you wire from one socket to the next and so on and back to the same fuse in the c/unit . To run the first socket that's nearest to the c/u then to the second socket then to the third which would be taken directly through the wall into the next room so back to back in other words and then to the next two sockets in the room and back to the c/u. Running the cable through the joist a few inches down. My question is there any laws or regulation on where best to run the cable under the floor or just use my common sense. As there seems to be laws and regulations governing every think. Ps: my sockets will be atleast 450mm high and 100mm from the surface of the worktop. I only intend to do the first fix or some of it at least and the donkey work like the chasing of the walls. As the floors have to be sound proofing and can only do it flat by flat. Then a qualified electrician to wire everything up. So will be posting the final fix in the near future. Many Thanks Paul

I think with all due respect that you would be better off letting an electrician do 1st & 2nd fix, dead test, live test, ensure the sockets are RCD protected ( if not already) & certificate needed by yourself.
