Landscape Gardening Question

Smooth vs ridged decking

I am installing a deck and due to its size and cost will be using soft wood. I prefer the look of a smooth deck but want to ask advice as to the pros/cons of smooth. Our builder says it would be very slippery however I have seen some advice online that says its only marginally more slippery than the rough ridged size. Can anyone advise as to which is better?

I've seen them in love your garden on itv turn the deck boards over for a smooth finish.
Don't think it's makes a massive difference that's y they sell the anti slip decking and fillers, Wet wood will get slippery no matter what this is why needs pressure washing and treating yearly, believe it's due to algae growing on the wood.

smooth decks look great, however they are slippery, all wood is when its wet. I always coat smooth decks with Osmo Anti-slip oil, it gives a micro surface to the wood, a bit like emery paper. Its not cheap, but well worth it.
