Panel splitting after washing machine overflow

Hi, recently we have had an issue with the washing machine overflowing through the liquid drawer (about 5 times). This has been sorted by leaving the drawer slightly open. However, almost immediately the high gloss vertical panel next to it has started splitting (I'm gathering the MDF is expanding) the cracks being about an inch long. The kitchen was fitted just under 2 years. Please advise. Am I going to have to live with it, take it up with the fitter or contact my insurance.

Hi yes unfortunately its not a manufacturer or fitter problem, unless the fitter hasnt atleast siliconed around the base of the panel & plinths to provide some protection against water spillage, then i would take it up with them

This is a common problem when appliances leaks or overflows. If the pannel is a decorative end pannel it should be easy to replace. If the pannel is part of the unit it is still possible to replace it but may be a little bit more tricky to access.
