Bricklaying & Repointing

Rebuilding garden wall

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 2.51 PM

A car reversed into the wall on my front drove and knocked a segment down. I'm looking to rebuild it myself as it's only a short section. It's a single skin wall of concrete bricks, with a capped pillar at the end that is two bricks wide. Parts of the pillar section is still intact, the bricks being held together even though they were knocked down. Is it ok for me to just bed this pre-existing segment in when I'm rebuilding, our would it be best to break it down completely into individual bricks and start building the pillar again?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi ..you would be okay to remove any lose brick and cement.. The you can 're bick from the base you already have be sure to make you cement mix 2 to 1 ..ie 2x sand 1x cement..or ready mix bags will also do ..wait till brick work is dry the wet down with water or a pva ..and apply an render coat to the wall .. depending on the depth of render one scratch coat and then a top coat..floted off

You may need to take of the affected surface as if you try to build up again ,this won't be strong enough in the future. My advice is to start building the pillar again .

Hi, In my opinion, it is always better to break the parts down, and bed the bricks down individually, as the strength of a brick wall is in the bond of the bricks.
