I feel the tradesmen and customer should put an equal share into the initial start of any job It would put both parties at ease knowing ones good for money and the other is good at their job before next payment is made

Do not give out any deposit onto the work has started and you see progress usually at we do not except any deposit and payment when job is finished. And is 100% satisfaction

it would depend on the cost of the materials and size of the job.

In certain circumstances, yes. If its a big job, small companys might have to put themselves in debt to provide materials ect.. a tradesman i know recently payed out a huge amount of money for materials for a newly aquired job after confirmation to commence work. Two days after he started work the client said he could no longer go ahead with the work as he would no longer be able to fund it. Leaving the tradesman thousands out of pocket.

Any good trades men should have money to start a job but if the job is too big he should collect a bit of the posit and show materials for the deposit not a shovel or a trial Materials something that the owner can see for he's money and always get a receipt to prove every penny you gave him or her and check he's recommendations from previous walk and feedback from other customers and see are Day happy with the work he done or her

There is no need to pay deposits or money up front if the bathroom fitter is confident of doing a great job obviously if baths basins toilets tiles etc are asked to be purchased before the job starts then that is all you should pay out for but no labour costs until you are happy with the quality of there work
