Risk to electrics after a pipe leak?
Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.29 PM
I recently had a plumber come to fix a pipe leak in the attic. The water had leaked over night down an internal wall, slowly dripping through the door frame. Damp marks on the wall go past a light switch. The leak is fixed and the damp is drying out now.
Just want reassurance if there's anything more to do following a leak of this kind.

Well, if you suspect water ingress into any of the electrical installation get an electrician in to have a look.

Have a local Electrican do an inspection on the affected circuits. It may be economical to have a full condition report (eicr) completed at the same time if this hasn't been done in a number of years.
An electrician can inspect the wiring and provide a test certificate.
Personally I would also recommend having an electrician replace the switch as any water could cause the mechanism and connections to rust.
