Bathroom Fitting

Cracked shower tray

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.10 PM

We've had a new stone resin shower tray fitted. My husband has just finished tiling and notice two cracked from the waste. It has been used yet. He is absolutely gutted as it means removing his tiles. would this have been caused by installation or a faulty tray (it wasn't cracked before it was fitted) we are thinking it hasn't been installed correctly by the plumber.

In all probability it is not down to your husband's tiling, or a faulty tray. It will be down to what the tray is sat on. It can go directly onto a concrete floor but I suspect you have a wooden floor. In which case floorboards should be screwed down and a minimum of 12mm moisture résistent ply should be screwed to the boards before installing the shower tray. The waste also needs support from below in many designs. There must be absolutely no movement. If this were me, I would check all of the above had been done and if they had not, I would insist it was all taken out and done again properly. I hope this helps.
