Painting & Decorating

painting crackled peeling ceiling

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.08 PM

I have had a leak from above which was painted with stain block some time ago. now I have come to redecorate and got up close I find the ceiling is all crackled all over and splitting off in parts. this is not only on the stained area. I have scraped, sanded and put a fine layer of prestonett filler on all loose areas but some parts of the ceiling were patches of bare plasterboard. My question is what should I paint with now to get a good finish? I have seen various products, Zinser ceiling paint, Polycell cracked ceilings paint, or should it be ok to paint with regular emulsion now? Thanks to all who read

If you are happy with the finish of the ceiling, as in it is not cracked or lumpy beyond what you can accept, I'd suggest using a water/pva solution to size the plaster etc and then when that has dried paint as you would normally.

You should scratch and send all the paint in poor condition and make sure very well. Then you are given a fixative to fix the paint and refill to leave a fine finish. To give fixer to the filling and to finish with two layers leaving drying time between them.
