Plastering & Rendering
What to do about this Artex?
Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 2.46 PM
Our Hallway upstairs and downstairs is covered in Artex.
I'm going to get it plastered over rather than remove it but what is the best way?
Pva? Bonding? Plasterboard. Here are some pics of it. Would appreciate any help and advice.

If u look in the pic wheres theres abit scrsped off the wall is flat with white bits on it.
Any chance of this being just textured wallpaper? Need to scrape it off or get rid in next week or so
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
The best way would be to remove would be to reboard. To save time and cost, bonding works well and when skimmed will give you the same finish as a plasterboard ceiling. Hope this helps

i personally would overboard + skim less messy and cheaper than bonding and skimming but either way works well =)
The best way is always to remove all the artex and reboard and skim (as above) a lot less messy but if that seems daunting or costly just knock back and scrape as much as possible. Apply a good mix of pva and water as much as 50:50 let that dry completely then repeat. Once that coat of pva has completely dried apply another coat of pva and water but wait till its gone tacky. Apply bonding coat and then skim. Hope this helps
Artex can contain asbestos and should not be disturbed with out a survey to test for this prior to any works being carried out if the artex is positive for asbestos specialist companies must be used so as it is removed and disposed of properly
