Downlights in bathroom

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.07 PM

I am in the process of refitting out bathroom and going to change the single light pendent to 6 downlights. Is it OK to install and get someone round to check and provide part p certificate or do I need to get someone to do the work? Update: Thanks for the responses. I have contacted an electrician and they are coming tomorrow to connect the lights up for me.

No the other way round it is to get building control consent pay the fee, install it then they will come and inspect/test it etc. If not up to BS7671 they will make you put it right and charge you for a re visit. If it is ok they will issue a compliance certificate. The far easier, cheaper and easiest way is to hire a REGISTERED electrician who can self certify as this job is notifiable to building control. If you do it yourself and do not involve building control you could be liable for a fine of up to £5000.

Ask a qualified electrician to carry out the work who can provide certification and notify the local authority (part p).
