Problem with Vinyl Silk ......cutting in lines

Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.33 PM

Wanted a hard wearing surface in our ensuite shower room and made the mistake of using vinyl silk 😳 Did not realise it was so tricky !! I cut in the whole room first as would with Matt(which I've now read is a bad idea☹️ .... Now the cutting in is a completely different colour and can't get the roller any closer as lots of small narrow areas ?? Not sure how best to rectify this ? Any suggestions ? Would I be better to use a brush for another coat on all of the walls instead of trying a roll again ? Grrrrrr

Hi Gina, many people do go wrong with soft sheen / vinyl silk as you mentioned. The problem you got is called flashing. Best thing to do is roll the walls with out cutting in until it matches in with cutting in. Once dried cut in and roll one more time, roll the wall as soon as it's cut in. Unlike Matt you can't go round cutting in then roll. Hope this helps

You need to cut the same number of coats as you are rolling. It may be you are either brushing or rolling the paint too thinly and previous colour is showing through. So the solution is to make sure you use enough coats as it takes for the edges to blend with the rest.

Your best cutting an rolling wall for wall so cut a wall in then roll it straight away or it will flash.
