Which type of plywood?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

If replacing old floorboards through out my house I decide to do it with plywood, what type should I used? 25mm construction grade hardwood ply or is that going overboard?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

T+g boarding would be best in either 18mm or 22mm. Glue the joints, I also mastic the joists to help prevent sqeeking if the joists are slightly out of level. 18mm ply would work but as mentioned above, it has its flaws.

You are better off using a tongue and grooved board since square edges lead to draughts and sqeaks....

18 mm plywood is more than enough, but difficult to fit without any experience, I also recommend the t&g

T+G 600x2400 boarding is best, either 18mm or 22mm. That's what it is designed for, there are various types, also water resistant for use in potentially wet areas i.e. kitchens & bathrooms. Best to glue or sealant the joints, helps prevent sqeaks. If possible try to align joints over joists to aid joint support. That's the professional way 👍
