Is it fine when he leaves the taps on?

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 2.45 PM

We have a mixer tap fitted with a pressure box (not an electric shower). You turn the taps on (both to get the desired temperature), pull up the toggle and turn the pressure boost on and whey - shower! No problems there at all. However, at the end of his shower my other half just turns off the pressure boost. This seems to be all that is needed to stop the water coming out the shower head, but means the taps are left on "full blast" with no water coming out. (The toggle does not automatically go down). What will this be doing to our water system? Is it damaging and is it dangerous? (We do not have a boiler and have a storage tank)

My question would be why do you have a separate switch to turn what I believe is a pump on? If you have a header tank with low pressure and have a pump to substitute this then the pump should turn on and turn of automatically. The pump should have an internal pressure switch that tells it when an outlet is open. In any case no turning the pump of and no water running will be doing no harm as the pump will further restrict the water flow and without it turned on may cause so much restriction. I flow at all. At some point the water might drop low enough in temperature becoming more dense and may work its way out of an open tap but that's about it. Cheers Exceeding expectations
