Gas Work Question
Cow boy builder???
Hi just need some advice, I was quoted £275 for materials/copper and £150 for labour to attach a gas pipe from the meter to the heating system, heater and cooker, total amount which I clarified on the phone with the trader of £450.
On the day of work he was able to connect only the cooker, he must off realised that to connect the heating system and heater would be require more work, and the next day he took £342 in cash.
Today he called to say that he can come and connect the heater and heating system to the gas meter BUT he would now have to give us a new quote for the labour and materials as he cant connect the pipe work as he originally thought and may have to take it through the loft. I have to be honest at this point my mum was not happy with him and so I called him back to say that we do not want him to carry on with the work, he then pointed out to me that we still owed him £130 for the labour to connect the gas meter to the cooker.
I asked him what the £342 he took was for and he said materials only, but I don't see why I have to pay him £130 just to connect the cooker, when originally he quoted me £150 to connect the cooker, heater and heating system. I don't mind paying him £150 if connects all three as he quoted at the beginning (or £50 for just the cooker), but he wants £130 now for just the cooker. I have also asked him for receipts for all the materials that he used.
Any advice is appreciated as I don't know if I should pay him £130 for just to connect the cooker, but he originally quoted me £150 to connect the cooker, heater and heating system. thank you
I advise you pay previous tradesman the outstanding £130 to stop any future hassle, in future I would also advise you get 3 individual quotes from different trades men and written quotes to use as guide and evidence
