i have a 12volt 60watt capacity transformer for outside lighting which is about 12 years old. i have just purchased a 10volt 3watt led spotlight . question is can i attach this to the 12volt ring cable powering the existing lights being run by the transformer which are 4 x 0.5 watt 12 volt led lights.

Probably not. You have not given the lower limit. I suspect its 20w in which case a 3w LED probably wont work properly. you probably need to replace your transformer with an LED driver.
