Foundations depth

Hello
I have just exchanged contracts on a house that's had a single storey extension , the first thing I want to do is build on top of it like the rest of the 8 houses near me ,
Only problem is how will I no if the foundations are suitable for me to build straight on top , on the plans it doesn't show the foundation depth or anything ,
They can be found here http://docs.west-lindsey.gov.uk/WAM/showCaseFile.do?appName=planning&appNumber=M04/P/1317

Thankyou in advance for your advice .

Hi you need to dig a test hole to find out the depth of the foundations just to make sure that they comply with the current building regulations, the local building control officer will probably need to inspect the test holes to check foundations.
Hope this helps.
