Power cut effects

A power cut caused our heating controller to switch from "off" to "auto" today when we were not at home, is this possible/correct?.
The control was positively in the off position but still plugged in obviously.
Thank you in advance.

Never Heard Of that. You should try to turn off the power and back on again to see if it really does that. And if it does get it repaired or replaced immediately.
