Improve/soften paved garden

My back garden (4m x 4m approximate) is paved in worn grey slabs, doesn't look great. What can I do to improve/soften it? Friends have suggested planters which will help, but they'll still be a lot of exposed slab. I was thinking about putting decorative stones/gravel down over some of it. Ideas welcome!

Thank you.

Have you tried imprinted concrete, my parents had it done and it looks like natural stone, great looking! Copy and paste this into your browser then go.

It really depends on what your budget is. You could take a section of paving up, dig out the sub base and import new topsoil and plant some soft landscaping. Water features can add interest to a garden as well as other features like pergolas etc. stones can make it more interesting would would be difficult to walk on. You can get some resin based gravel product that looks like gravel but is hard when you walk over it. Decking part of the garden is enougher idea you could do. Again it all depends on the budget, how much time you have for maintaining it and what you want to use it for.
