How to waterproof front steps

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 2.31 PM

We have front steps leading up to our house, which are tiled. Water is getting into these concrete steps and then moving laterally into our basement. We've had quotes for damp proofing/ tanking etc for the basement but I'd rather start where the water gets in so would like to redo the front steps so that they're waterproof. I'm not sure if it's possible to take up the tiles, apply a layer of something on the steps, then relay the tiles. Or whether asphalting the steps might help. Or any other solutions? All ideas welcome. Many thanks

Cover your steps with a suitable slab of your choice laid on a wet mix of mortar. The the gaps around the slabs should then be pointed using a wet mix of mortar and pressed tightly into the joints,a thus sealing your steps. Have a look at my website gardensolutions-edinburgh.co.uk to see a few examples of this. Darren.
