No this is not a good idea you need to remove the old carpet and fit a new carpet on underlay and gripper or if you want to get the cost down then you can just buy a felt back carpet which is designed to go straight to the floor.

You will also harber dust mites maybe other stuff in old carpet so best to get rid of old carpet

It's not generally a good idea as the new carpet will ruffle up over time. The only time I would say its ok is if the carpet is a thin felt type carpet that has been stuck with f3 type glue.

No that’s not good idea need to be remove the old carpet.if u want to get the cost down u have to buy felt back carpet just glue down
